Yukio and Iris' Kidou training and miscellaneous commentary

Post by Yukio on Wed Feb 22, 2012 10:52 am

Part 1: About a certain Kidou and its ludicrously long name

Hadou #88: Hiryugekizokushintenraiho

Aw yeah! This is what Yukio was waiting for when he became a Captain of the 5th Division: Access to the most powerful Kidou in all Soul Society. Hey! What is a Kidou specialized Captain without some really good Kidou, after all? Yes, he got his Bankai, which made even his weakest Kidou some real beasts (Just imagine a lvl 51 Shou; a Shou that hits almost as hard as a Haien), like if they were in steroids, but still he wanted to get access to the strongest Kidou in the book. After all, who knows if he could always count with his Bankai or even his Shikai. You have to be prepared for everything, just like Malka does.

Being the one in charge of all the Kidou handled in Soul Society, he had all the information he ever needed for learning these spells. Afterl all, they were all written on the books there, in the extensive library of the Division, which stored all kinds of Kidou spells created, rejected and more. So, for now, the only thing he had to do was picking a book and start reading.

There was one especially that caught Yukio's attention: It was the next spell he could learn concerning Hadou: Hadou #88, Hiryuge...what?

Okay, I guess the first thing I'll have to do is trying to say this tongue twister. Here I come...Yukio took a deep breath, preparing himself mentally for saying the longest name in the list of Hadou. "Hadou #88: Hiryugekizokushint-ow! I bit my tongue..."

And so it went during a good chunk of time, with Yukio trying several times to repeat the ridiculously long name and biting his tongue over and over until he finally snapped, slamming the book against the table and screaming at the top of his long before starting a good rant about this Hadou.

"Goddammit! Who in their sane mind would give a Kidou such a stupidly long name?! I know they want to do it for the drama, because they think a flashy Kidou without a flashy name isn't that great, but they really don't see how impractical is this when it has to be used in a fight! You'll have to keep focused on both the spell and in keeping your target under aim or else the thing will unavoidably miss! And just look at the meaning! Flying Dragon-Striking Heaven-Shaking Thunder Cannon? Oh, come on! I swear by Lady Amaterasu, origin of everything that is good and mother to us all, that I'll NEVER pick such long names for the Kidou I create!"

"Then, why do you keep on trying to learn this one and don't go for another one, like Kurohitsugi, Hyōga Seiran or Danku? Those are easier to recite than this one." Iris, Yukio's Zanpakutou spirit and voice of reason, obviously couldn't stay without having a word in this. Whenever Yukio forgot something important, she was always there to remind him of that. Actually, speaking in Jungian terms, she was like his anima.

"For several reasons, Iris: First, this is the next Hadou in the list; secondly, it still packs quite a punch; third, the name may be a pain in the neck, but it is easier to learn than those you have said, well, except for Danku, which is maybe easier to learn than this one, but I'll pick up that one later because offensive skills are more useful than defensive ones; and finally, because is another blue Kidou."

When Yukio said the last reason, Iris, inside of Yukio's inner world, couldn't avoid taking her right hand to her forehead, out of pure exasperation.

"...I can't believe you're still choosing Kidou for such a trivial reason as for being blue...and here you are, criticizing somebody for naming a Kidou with a purely aesthetic name, when you tend to choose your spells for purely aesthetic reasons. You need to grow up on that part, Yukio."
